A class will be cancelled if the minimum number 

of members has not signed up! 

 

 

IOWA PLUMBING & MECHANICAL SYSTEMS 

Continuing Education Requirements for Licensees 

 

Classes from Sept. 2017 to Apr. 2018 

  

The continuing education compliance period shall begin on the date the license is issued and end on the date the license expires. 

  

SINGLE LICENSE 

Each three year license period, a master or journey licensee holding a single trade license is required to complete a minimum of 8 hours of board-approved continuing education. The required distribution of hours is as follows: 

  

EXAMPLE: 

  

4 hours in the prescribed practice discipline (Mechanical, Hydronics, HVAC, Refrigeration or Plumbing)  

2 hours (minimum) applicable Iowa Mechanical or Plumbing Code. 

2 hours in Safety the content area of the OSHA or CPR / 1st Aid / EAD 

  

MULTIPLE LICENSES 

  

Each two year license period a master or journey licensee holding a multiple trade license is required to complete 16 hours of board-approved continuing education. The required distribution of hours is as follows: 

  

EXAMPLE: 

  

8 hours in any of the prescribed practice discipline (Mechanical, Hydronics, HVAC, Refrigeration or Plumbing)  

2 hours (or 4 hours) applicable Iowa Mechanical or Plumbing Code. 

(Note: If you hold a license under both plumbing and mechanical code this number will be 4 hours.) 

4        hours in Safety the content area of the OSHA or CPR / 1st Aid / EAD 

 

1.) C.P.R. & 1ST Aid & AED Training Classes: (4 Safety Iowa)   

This class is for members to renew their CPR & 1st Aid & AED, and for members who do not have CPR & 1st Aid Training & AED. This class is a (4) hour class. Upon the completion of this class, you will have a hands-on test. You must attend all 4 hours to receive your Continuing Education hours. These CPR & 1st Aid & AED classes will be held at Both Training Centers on the following days. 

 

Omaha Training Center: Monday March 05, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. 

 

  

2.) 2 hour OSHA & Safety Classes (2 Safety Iowa)   

  

This class is for members who need 2 hours of Safety Training for the Iowa License renewal. The OSHA Safety classes will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following day. 

 

Omaha Training Center: Tuesday March 13, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

  

  

3.) 10 hour OSHA Classes: (8 Safety Iowa)   

This class is for members who do not have a 10 hour OSHA card or want to learn more about Safety & OSHA. This class is a 10 hour class, meeting two (2) consecutive Saturdays. Upon the completion of this class, you will take a written test. The OSHA Safety Classes will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following day. 

  

This class will begin on Saturday December 9, 2017 from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm  

March 10, 2018 from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm  

  

4.) 30 hour OSHA Class: (8) Safety Iowa 

 

This class is for members who do not have a 30 hour OSHA card or want to learn more about Safety & OSHA. This class is a 30 hour class, meeting two (2) Saturdays for 7 hours, and three (3) nights for 5 hours. Upon the completion of this class you will take a written test. The class will be held at the Omaha Training Center. 

  

This class will begin on Saturday March 10, 2018 from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 

  

  

  

5.) CFC License: (8 HVAC or Refrigeration Iowa)   

 

This class is for members who do not have a CFC License. This class will meet three (3) hours a night for eight (8) weeks. You must attend all 8 nights of class to receive your Continuing Education hours. Upon the completion of this class, you will take a CFC test. The CFC License class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following days. 

  

This class will begin on Tuesday October 03, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  

  

  

6.) Universal R-410A Certification: (8 HVAC Iowa)   

This class will provide training and certification for experienced HVACR Technicians for proper  

Safety, handling and application of R-410A refrigerant. This class will meet four (4) hours a night for two (2) weeks for test preparation, examination of proper R-410A equipment and conclude with the R-410A exam at a cost to you of $30.00. This class will be held at the Omaha Training Center 

 

This class will begin on Thursday April 05, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m 

  

  

7.) Crane Signalperson Certification Class:   

  

This class is an intensive course that includes Signalperson Certification Written & Practical Examinations. The course covers all the pertinent rules specified in OSHA Federal Regulations 29 CFR Part 1926 - Cranes and Derricks in Construction and in ASME Standards. At the conclusion of these sessions, successful candidates will have obtained their NCCCO Signalperson Certification. Cost to members for this class is $75.00 for Journeyman. This class will be held on Wednesdays & Thursdays from 5:00pm to 9:00 pm and the Written & Practical exam will be on the following Saturday at 7:30 am. Each class must have 10 or more members per class, if we don't have 10 members that class will be cancelled.

8.) Basic Refrigeration: (4-CEH - HVAC-Iowa) (4-CEH - HVAC- ACAD) 

This class is to give members the basics of Introduction, Conduction, Convection, Radiation, Sensible & Latent Heat, Specific Heat, Pressure, Atmospheric Pressure / Effects, Alternating Current. This Class will meet for (4) hours for one (1) night. This class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following days. 

Monday November 06, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm  

9.) Intermediate Refrigeration: (4-CEH-HVAC-Iowa) (4-CEH-HVAC-ACAD) 

  

This class is to give members the basics of Refrigeration Equipment & Processes, Refrigeration Process, Pressure & Temperature, The Compressor, The Condenser, The Evaporator, The Metering Device, Refrigeration System & Components. This Class will meet for (4) hours for one (1) night. This class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following days. 

  

Monday November 13, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm  

10.) Intermediate Refrigeration II: (4-CEH - HVAC Iowa) (4-CEH - HVAC - ACAD) 

  

This class is to give members the basics of Refrigerants, Refrigerants Safety & Detection, Refrigerants Boiling Points, Refrigerant Pumping, Characteristics, Popular Refrigerant, Characteristics & Color Codes, Refrigerant Recovery, and Recycle & Reclaim. This Class will meet for (4) hours for one (1) night. This class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following days.

11.) Basic Electricity: (4-CEH - HVAC - Iowa) (4-CEH HVAC - ACAD) 

  

This class is to give members the basics of Structure of Electrons, Conductors, Insulators, Electricity From Magnetism, Direct Current, and Alternating Current. This Class will meet for (4) hours for one (1) night. This class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following days.

12.) Intermediate Electricity: (4-CEH - HVAC - Iowa) (4-CEH HVAC - ACAD) 

  

This class is to give members the basics of Electrical Units of Measurement, The Electrical Circuit, making Electrical Measurements, Ohm's Law, Characteristics of Service Circuits, Characteristics of Parallel, Electrical Power, Magnetism, and Inductance. This Class will meet for (4) hours for one (1) night. This class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following days. 

 

Monday December 11, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm  

  

13.) Intermediate Electricity II: (4-CEH - HVAC - Iowa) (4-CEH HVAC - ACAD) 

  

  

This class is to give members the basics of Transformers, Capacitance, Impedance, Electrical Measuring Instruments, Sine Waves, Wire Sizes, Circuit Protection Devices, Semi-conductors. This Class will meet for (4) hours for one (1) night. This class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following days. 

 

Monday December 18, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm  

  

14.) VRV Installation and Commissioning:   

  

This class will cover best practices for installation starting with piping, flaring, system pressure test and evacuation, and charging methods. Also covered will be product and technology, basic install, remote control installation, and system commissioning. This class will run 4 hours a night for 4 weeks and you must attend all 16 hours to receive you Continuing Education Hours. 

 

This class will be held in the second semester Class dates to be determined 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Online Continuing Education  

Classes 

 

15.) Introduction to Blackboard:   

  

This is an introduction to Blackboard which is an online learning system used for various classes developed for our membership. In this class you will learn how to log in and navigate the Blackboard system which we will use for our online classes. Only members who have taken the Introduction to Blackboard will be eligible to take online Continuing Education classes. Space is limited to the first 20 members and you must be signed up at least one week prior to the start of class for us to obtain your log in and password. 

 

Monday October 23, 2017 5:00pm to 7:00pm 

 

16.) Customer Relations 1:   

  

This class is an online class that is only available to members that have already completed the Introduction to Blackboard course. The Customer Relations Class is for any member who would like to improve their skills in working with customers. This introductory class will cover the evolution of service, the satisfaction model, identifying your customers, and learning how to better communicate with customers. You will work at your own pace becoming more familiar with Blackboard, reading PowerPoint presentations, completing assessments, and posting comments online. 

  

Call the hall to get signed up for the class. You will be notified by e-mail when the class is available to you along with other instructions. Once you have started the class (logged into) you will have three (3) weeks to complete the course.
