Continuing Education Classes from Sept. 2016 to Apr. 2017 

 

Per the Agreement with Mechanical Contractors Association of Omaha, Inc., Article IV, Proficiency Improvement, each member shall complete a minimum of eight (8) hours of upgraded Journeymen Training annually. A maximum of four (4) hours in excess of those required may be carried to the next year. The minimum training requirements became effective for the 2002-2003 contract years and each year thereafter for the term of the Agreement. Credit for classes taken will be calculated at 2:1 ratio for the number of hours the class is held; except for first aid & CPR which will be calculated at 1:1 ratio.   

 

EXAMPLE: If you successfully complete a 24 hour class, then you will have earned twelve (12) hours of upgraded Journeyman Training Hours of continuing education hours (CEH). The eight (8) hour requirement of Continuing Education will be fulfilled for that contract year and you have earned an extra four (4) hours of class room hours that will be rolled over to the next contract year.   

  

Any union member maintaining the following license and certification shall receive two (2) hours of upgraded Journeyman Training. 

A current UA Weld Certification 

A current license to work in Bellevue, Ne. A current Med-Gas Installer and Braze Certification 

A current ACAD License  

EXAMPLE: If you have: CPR / First Aid / EAD Class = 4 continuing education hours 

UA weld /Med-gas Braze Certification = 2 continuing education hours 

Bellevue License = 2 continuing education hours 

Total upgraded 2016-2017 year = 8 continuing education hours 

  

1. CPR/ 1st Aid Certifications are good for 2 years, but will only count towards Continuing Education hours the year you take the class. 

 

2. No Contractors Safety meetings or job site Safety meetings will count towards education hours. 

 

3. No classes held at the job sites during the work day will count towards education hours. 

 

Those individuals not in compliance with the eight (8) hour upgraded Journeyman Training will not receive the raise for that contract year or any subsequent contract year in which the requirement is not met. You will need to make up the hours in the year you are delinquent plus the hours for the current contract year to become eligible for your raise.

IOWA PLUMBING & MECHANICAL SYSTEMS 

Continuing Education Requirements for Licensees 

 

Classes from Sept. 2016 to Apr. 2017 

  

The continuing education compliance period shall begin on the date the license is issued and end on the date the license expires. 

  

SINGLE LICENSE 

  

Each two year license period, a master or journey licensee holding a single trade license is required to complete a minimum of 8 hours of board-approved continuing education. The required distribution of hours is as follows: 

  

EXAMPLE: 

  

4 hours in the prescribed practice discipline (Mechanical, Hydronics, HVAC, Refrigeration or Plumbing)  

2 hours (minimum) applicable Iowa Mechanical or Plumbing Code. 

2 hours in Safety the content area of the OSHA or CPR / 1st Aid / EAD 

  

MULTIPLE LICENSES 

  

Each two year license period a master or journey licensee holding a multiple trade license is required to complete 16 hours of board-approved continuing education. The required distribution of hours is as follows: 

  

  

EXAMPLE: 

  

8 hours in any of the prescribed practice discipline (Mechanical, Hydronics, HVAC, Refrigeration or Plumbing)  

2 hours (or 4 hours) applicable Iowa Mechanical or Plumbing Code. 

(Note: If you hold a license under both plumbing and mechanical code this number will be 4 hours.) 

4 hours in Saftey the content area of the OSHA or CPR / 1st Aid / EAD

THIS CLASS IS LIMITED TO MEMBERS THAT NEED A JOURNEYMAN STEAMFITTER OMAHA LICENSE ONLY. 

  

This class is for members who do not have a City of Omaha Steamfitters License. This Class will meet three (3) hours a night for ten (10) weeks. You must attend all 30 hours to receive your continuing education hours. Upon the completion of this class, you will take the Omaha City License test at a cost of $35.00 to you. The Journeyman Steamfitter Omaha City License class will begin on the following day.

3.) Med-Gas License Class: Instructor - Joe Bauer, Joe Mc Neil (8 Hydronic Iowa) (12 CEH 464) (10 Lincoln Plumbing)  

  

This class is for members who do not have a Med-Gas License. This class is a 40 hour class, meeting three (3) hours a night for thirteen (13) weeks. You must attend all 40 hours to receive your Continuing Education hours. Upon the completion of this class, you will take a written test, and a braze test, Proctored by NITC at a cost of $116.00 to you. The Med-Gas License class begins on the following day. This class will be held at the Omaha Training Center.

4.) Welding Classes: Instructor - Adam Drake (8 Hydronic Iowa) (12 CEH 464)  

  

This class is for all members who want basic skills and for members to sharpen their skills. This class is a 24 hour class, meeting three (3) hours a night for eight (8) weeks. You must attend al 24 hours to receive your Continuing Education hours. There will be two (2) classes, one will start in September and one will start in January. These Welding class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following days. THE FIRST (12) MEMBERS

This class is for members who need 2 hours of Safety Training for the Iowa License renewal. The OSHA Safety classes will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following days. Each class will have a different Safety topic.

This class is for members who do not have a 10 hour OSHA card or want to learn more about Safety & OSHA. This class is a 10 hour class, meeting two (2) consecutive Saturdays. You must attend all 10 hours to receive your Continuing Education hours. Upon the completion of this class, you will take a written test. The OSHA Safety Classes will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following day.

This class is for members who do not have a 30 hour OSHA card or want to learn more about Safety & OSHA. This class is a 30 hour class, meeting two (2) Saturdays for 7 hours, and three (3) nights for 5 hours. You must attend all 30 hours to receive your Continuing Education hours. Upon the completion of this class you will take a written test. The class will be held at the Omaha Training Center.

8.) Prometric Bellevue License Class: Instructor- Lee Burt, Pat Ryan Twelve (12) CEH  

(6 Lincoln Plumbing) (8 Mech. Code or Hydronic or Refrigeration or HVAC Iowa)  

 

This class is for members who do not have a Bellevue License. This class is a 36 hour class, meeting three (3) hours a night for twelve (12) weeks. You must attend all 36 hours, to receive your Continuing Education hours. Upon the completion of this class, you will take the Prometric License test at a cost of $90.00 to you will be able to obtain a Bellevue license by receiving a 75% or better on the exam. This class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following day.

9.) Iowa License Class: Instructors- Tim Mulcahy , Pat Ryan (12 CEH 464) (8 Mech. Code or Hydronic or Refrigeration or HVAC Iowa)   

This class is for members who do not have a State of Iowa License. This class is a 36 hour class, meeting three (3) hours a night for twelve (12) weeks. You must attend all 36 hours, to receive your Continuing Education hours. Upon the completion of this class, you will submit your application at a cost to you of $35.00. After approval you will take the exam at a cost of $95.00 to you for each License. You will be able to obtain a State of Iowa license by receiving a 75% or better on the exam. This class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following day.

This class will have strong emphasis on Basic Centrifugal Chiller principals, while also highlighting basic Reciprocating Screw and Scroll technology. It will cover technical information, basic refrigeration principals, operation and maintenance, and troubleshooting. This class will meet four (4) hours a night for (4) weeks. You must attend all 16 hours to receive your Continuing Education hours. This class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following day.

11.) Advanced Centrifugal Water Chillers Class: Instructor- Jeff Krula (8 Hydronic Iowa) (10 CEH 464)  

 

First Five (5) Members  

 

(Prerequisite: Basic Water Chillers Class, or (equivalent experience)  

 

This class will have strong emphasis on Centrifugal overhaul procedures. The course shall cover; precision measuring techniques, a step by step Centrifugal tear-down procedure, and give the member a good working knowledge of Centrifugal compressor design and operation. This class will meet four (4) hours a night for five (5) weeks. You must attend all 20 hours to receive your Continuing Education hours. The Advanced Centrifugal Water Chillers class, will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following day.

This class is for members who have the skills to make a Certification Weld. This class will meet Four (4) hours a night for three (3) weeks for practice and One (1) Saturday to take the UA weld test. Introduction to Orbital Automatic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding process. This class will teach theoretical basic for weld program development and programming weld equipment. This class will meet four (4) hours a night for four (4) weeks. You must attend all (16) hours to receive your Continuing Education hours. The Orbital welding class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following days. This class is limited to (6) members

14.) Rigging Certification Class: Instructors- Andy Hospodka, John Paul Smith

This Rigging class is for members who need to know more about Rigging, and for members who want to get a Rigging Certification. The Industrial Rigging Certification for members has a theoretical and a practical component covering the best rigging practices calculating centers of gravity, sling stress, crane set up and the use of tuggers, jacks and rollers. Course requirements: a hands-on performance evaluation, along with a written exam. Upon passing of the written and performance exam the member will receive a UA/EPRI certification for industrial rigging. You must attend all (40) hours to receive your Continuing Education hours. The Rigging Certification class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following days.

This class is for members who do not have a CFC License. This class will meet three (3) hours a night for eight (8) weeks. You must attend all 8 nights of class to receive your Continuing Education hours. Upon the completion of this class, you will take a CFC test. The CFC License class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following days.

16.) Universal R-410A Certification: Instructors-Pat Ryan (8 HVAC Iowa)  

(4 CEH 464)   

This class will provide training and certification for experienced HVACR Technicians for proper  

Safety, handling and application of R-410A refrigerant. This class will meet four (4) hours a night for two (2) weeks for test preparation, examination of proper R-410A equipment and conclude with the R-410A exam at a cost to you of $30.00. This class will be held at the Omaha Training Center

This class is to give members a general knowledge of pump alignment and laser alignment. This class is a 4 hour class, meeting one (1) night. You must attend all (4) hours to receive your Continuing Education hours. The Pump Shaft Alignment class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following days.

19.) UA/LU 464/MCAO Foreman Certification: Jamie Bearup & MCA   

(Twelve (12) CEH-464)  

 

With the UA and MCAA recognizing the need for effective leaders within the organization this course introduces current and potential Foreman to the topics that are critical in the workplace. It will focus on Leadership Functions, Commitment, People Skills, Communications, Teamwork and Organization. This class is a 40 hour class, and will be held at the Omaha Training Center. There will be a test at the end of this class.

This class is to give members a general knowledge of Total Station Equipment & set up. This class is a 4 hour class, meeting one (1) night. 21.) Valve Repair Certification Class: Instructor - John Paul Smith & Shane Greise   

(12-CEH - 464) 

  

  

This class has an emphasis on classroom instruction, textbook materials and hands-on experience. Class members will be instructed in the disassembly, inspection, repair and reassembly of different types of valves found in power plants and other industrial facilities. 

This is a forty (40) hour class and will meet for one (1) night a week for 11 weeks. This class will be held at the Omaha Training Center and begin on the following day.

22.) Crane Signalperson Certification Class: Instructors -John Paul Smith & Mike McEvoy 

(8- CEH- 464). (6 Lincoln Plumbing)  

  

This class is an intensive course that includes Signalperson Certification Written & Practical Examinations. The course covers all the pertinent rules specified in OSHA Federal Regulations 29 CFR Part 1926 - Cranes and Derricks in Construction and in ASME Standards. At the conclusion of these sessions, successful candidates will have obtained their NCCCO Signalperson Certification. Cost to members for this class is $75.00 for Journeyman. This class will be held on Wednesdays & Thursdays from 5:00pm to 9:00 pm and the Written & Practical exam will be on the following Saturday at 7:30 am. Each class must have 10 or more members per class, if we don't have 10 members that class will be cancelled.

23.) Burner Class: Instructor: Steven Norman (6 CEH 464)  

  

This Three night burner class would cover flame detection methods, burner sequence of operation, Fire Eye controls, Honeywell controls and applicable NFPA code requirements. The class time would include lecture and limited hands on learning. The class will run three consecutive nights and you must be present at all three classes to receive credit.

Also covered will be product and technology, basic install, remote control installation, and system commissioning. This class will run 4 hours a night for 4 weeks and you must attend all 16 hours to receive you Continuing Education Hours.

This class will meet for eight (8) hours on one Saturday. You must attend all eight (8) hours of class to receive your Continuing Education hours. This class will be held at the Lincoln Training Center and begin on the following day. You must bring your Uniform Plumbing Code book with you.

This class is for members who want to learn about the code changes. This class will meet for two (2) hours on one Saturday. You must attend all two (2) hours of class to receive your Continuing Education hours. This class will be held at the Lincoln Training Center and begin on the following day. You must bring your Uniform Plumbing Code book with you. 

  

This class will begin on Saturday March 25th from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. 

  

  

47.) Backflow License Class: Instructor - Joshua Medley (8 Plumbing Iowa) (12 CEH 464)  

  

This class is for members who do not have a Backflow License. This class is a 40 hour class, meeting three (3) hours a night for thirteen (13) weeks. You must attend all 40 hours to receive your Continuing Education hours. Upon the completion of this class, you will take a written test, a hands-on test, at a cost of $144.00 to you. The Backflow License Class will be held at the Lincoln Training Center, and begin on the following day. In order to have this class, we must have 3 members.

This class is for members who have a Back-flow License, this class counts for four (4) hours of continuing education for the State of Nebraska or the State of Iowa. You must attend all hours to receive your continuing education hours. This class will be held at the Lincoln Training Center and begin on the following days. You must bring your Back-Flow License with you to class.

You must attend all 39 hours to receive your Continuing Education hours. Upon the completion of this class, you will take the Lincoln City License test at a cost of $175.00 to you. The Journeyman Lincoln Plumbing License class will begin on the following day.

This class will cover Lincoln amendments, 2009 Uniform Plumbing Code, water pipe and waste vent pipe sizing, drawings flat and isometric with sizing, gas code and gas sizing and a copper project.

In this class you will learn how to log in and navigate the Blackboard system which we will use for our online classes. Only members who have taken the Introduction to Blackboard will be eligible to take online Continuing Education classes. Space is limited to the first 20 members and you must be signed up at least one week prior to the start of class for us to obtain your log in and password.

This class is an online class that is only available to members that have already completed the Introduction to Blackboard course. The Customer Relations Class is for any member who would like to improve their skills in working with customers. This introductory class will cover the evolution of service, the satisfaction model, identifying your customers, and learning how to better communicate with customers. You will work at your own pace becoming more familiar with Blackboard, reading PowerPoint presentations, completing assessments, and posting comments online.
